Pizza is one of the tastiest dishes in the world, but unfortunately, it has a reputation of being harmful because it contains a large amount of calories, saturated fat and sodium. Only a slice of pizza contains 311 calories. However, the question remains whether you can consume at least one slice of pizza?
If you put the amount of calories you consume with a slice of pizza aside, it is important to know exactly what happens to your body after you eat a slice of pizza:
The first 10 minutes:
The first bite activates the pleasure center in your brain, but the closer you get to the pizza crust, the less you enjoy. While they enjoy this slice of pizza, your digestive system begins to emit enzymes that break down the carbohydrates and will also break down into sugars which will be used by your body as “fuel”.
10 to 15 minutes:
Although the cheese fats slow down the movement, the sugar begins to circulate around your body. You’ll feel more awake, but your stomach may bloat because your body still continues with the decomposition, and gases may be released (especially if you eat quickly or overeat).
15 to 20 minutes:
The levels of the hormone leptin, which “tells” you to stop eating, are elevated by raising the levels of glucose in the cells. If you continue to eat, the cells cease to absorb sugars and send them to your liver which will then turn them into fat and store them as such.
If you aren’t full, you will feel a surge of energy and your body will stop producing the hormone ghrelin (hunger hormone). The fats will begin to disintegrate, too, and since they are unsaturated, they can cause clogging of your arteries. This is especially true for those who frequently eat junk food and have genetic predispositions.
45 to 60 minutes:
Your blood pressure rises, your leptin levels are high, so you do not feel hunger.
